Patmos

Upon returning to the ship, Rich and I found a nice bottle of champagne for our 2nd anniversary. After a quick trip on the ship, enjoying our champagne lunch, we landed on the small island of Patmos for a few hours of touring. This was the most religious island we visited being home to both the Cave of the Apocalypse, where the apostle John lived and worked to write the book of Revelations and the Monastery of St. John. We toured the Church of Aghia Anna (St. Ann) which is built into the cave and saw the indentation on the cave where it is said that St. John rested his head. After a quick tour of the cave, we headed further up the mountain to the Monastery of St. John. This is a Byzantine monastery that is filled with historic religious treasures.

Rich, Mere and Bryce outside of the Cave of the Apocalypse.

Bryce enjoying his crustini on the tender boat that took us from the ship to the island's port.

You can see our cruise ship in the background. It was a little hazy but the views were still amazing. This is standing outside of the monastery.

Skala, the main town and port of Patmos.

Outside of the monastery, this Greek Orthodox Priest stopped to say Hi to Bryce and Jeremy. Several shop owners and street vendors gave Bryce small patches of fabric that they pinned to his shirt. We never really found out what they were for but we only ever saw them on Patmos and they were only ever pinned on Bryce so we think they were some sort of blessing for children.

To wrap up our anniversary (4/22) we decided to play a little roulette. We both bet on 4 and 22 every turn. The ball landed on 22 five times and it landed on 4 at least three times. I guess we're meant to be!
